Connecting with the earth is a form of spirituality. As the artist seeks to become more integrated with nature, she finds herself allowing it to take the lead. Thus, her garden is becoming a wild jungle with its own rhythms and demands. “Healing Venom” is a self-portrait. She waters the hibiscus bush with the venom of a snake taking on the personification of an ancient goddess with a magic staff. She traditionally sees her garden as her own personal world. This painting is an admission of that ego.
